Reptile Housing Tanks

Exploring Reptile Housing

Your pet reptile is going to require an enclosure to live in. They will need this reptile housing to be regulated for temperature and for light, and kept clean. Choosing the right reptile housing is imperative to a healthy and happy pet reptile. You will find that there are a number of choices on the market for reptiles. The choice will be partly your preference, budget, and necessity. We will discuss the various types of reptile housing to help you narrow down your choice.

A vivarium can be wood or glass. It can also be referred to as a terrarium. There is little difference between these two names for reptile housing. They are both meant to give a reptile a home with natural plants and substrate. If you choose a wood vivarium you will have glass doors, but the rest of the enclosure will be wood. They range in size from 24 inches and up. The wooden vivariums tend to come with cabinets that it will sit on. This allows you to store your various pet reptile supplies and have the cage at about waist height or eye level if you prefer.

Glass vivariums are glass all around except for a little plastic on the edges and for the roof. They are a lot like aquariums in that they can be a dry or wet vivarium. The glass vivariums are great for turtles and amphibians that need partial water or all water. The roof tends to be a little heavier in the vivarium style over that of a regular aquarium, but an aquarium tank will work just the same.

Lastly there is the mesh housing that is made out of nylon. Sight in this style of tank is harder because the mesh is kept so close together. The one advantage of mesh reptile housing is giving your reptile more air to breathe. They are harder to regulate, so you usually need to live in a tropical area where heat is not going to be a huge factor.

These three styles of reptile housing will keep your adult reptiles very happy. Different sizes are available to help you find a cage suitable. Some reptile housing is taller than it is wide and vice versa. If your reptile likes to climb you probably need an enclosure that has more height than it does width. A basking reptile like lizards that do not climb as often can fit nicely in the wider containers.

One other option if you wish to raise your reptile from a hatchling to an adult would be the need for reptile housing for hatchlings. Baby reptiles still require a sterile, warm environment. This means you need to provide a smaller and warmer cage. There is reptile housing hatchling cages available as well as incubators if you wish to start from the egg and work your way to an adult pet reptile.

There are also other aspects of reptile housing such as the substrate, decorations, food dishes, and heat regulators that will make up the reptile environment so have a good look around our bearded dragon vivarium site as you will also find all those different products.
